The What For

The idea for Black Ink Archives and Networked Community Activities was created out of my desire to bring life to the past, and to use the past to connect the present within my community. Although my initial reason for creating a web site was to focus on local history and preservation, my interest has evolved into using new technology to assist in strengthening community service, preserving community history, all without losing the pleasures and joys of simple living and the togetherness that many of us strive for.

If you're looking to have a presence on the Web, it's okay to start simple and basic. Not everyone needs the "flash" and "fancy" of higher end web sites. We help small non-profits, businesses, and individuals with that first web site, a redesign of an old one, or help just figuring out how to use some of the many online tools to help your business grow.

Open source is a great resource. Not all of us are programmers or designers, or can afford one. I believe in, appreciate, utilize, and acknowledge those designers that make their templates available through the "open source" community. The template for this page was made possible by "StyleShout" - see their link below.

Useful Technology

Recently, I was real pleased to read a news release announcing that Prince George's County, Maryland, (my home county) was voted 9th in a survey of the top ten digial counties in the United States. Read about it here. Why is that pleasing to me? Because demonstrates that citizens have greater access to more information relevant to their daily lives. It can be something as simple as information on trash collection and recycling, proposed legislation, or how to pay our local taxes. Congratulations to our county government on the award. Closing the digital divide is always good news.
